Information for the start of the lecture period at the University

Shortly before the start of the lecture period on 21 March 2022, the Bundestag voted in favour of the new Infection Prevention Act, thus clearing the way for a relaxation of pandemic restrictions. In the future, only so-called "basic prevention measures" will apply nationwide. However, state parliaments can decide on whether to implement additional requirements. Here you will find things to bear in mind about the start of the summer semester 2022 lecture period.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, a transitional phase will likely be implemented through early April 2022, which, among other things, will still require the wearing of masks indoors until 2 April 2022. All signs indicate that the University is well prepared for these measures with its hygiene framework, valid from 21 March 2022 and that this will continue to prove useful and viable for the future.

The most important aspects of the new hygiene framework and its implementation at the University are:

3G rules continue to apply

Entering university buildings requires valid proof of 3G status. This applies to all persons defined in the Coronavirus Prevention Ordinance. Documents proving 3G status must always be presented together with an official form of photo identification to the responsible university employee or their appointed representative.

At both campus locations, campus security will be working in the main lecture hall from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Upon entering the building, visitors' 3G proof will be checked. In addition to this stationary check, 3G status will be verified in buildings on campus on a random basis.

The FFP2 mask requirement remains the cornerstone

A FFP2 mask must be worn at all times in buildings and enclosed spaces. Masks can be removed at designated seating or standing areas, provided a minimum distance of 1.5 meters to others is maintained at all times. Important: this exception does not apply to in-person instruction! Here, FFP2 masks must be worn at all times and by all participants regardless of distancing. Only teachers and presenters, provided they maintain the minimum distance to others and do not move about the room, are excluded from this rule.

The FFP2 mask requirement in courses can only be checked by teaching staff. If students wish to participate in a course without a mask or without an adequate mask, they should be made aware of the mask requirement.

Should any laws and regulations be passed in the coming days that require any changes at short notice, the University will inform you immediately.
