DAAD English Exam

for English

Students at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences can request a DAAD English Language Certificate for exchange purposes. This certificate is usually required for scholarship/exchange programmes organised by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) which require a certain proficiency level in English (usually B2).

The DAAD exam is a non-standardised test of your current proficiency level.  It is offered free of charge to students, but an initial consultation is required (see below).

Dates and registration

The DAAD Exam for English is offered by appointment. Please contact brett.ellis@hochschule-rhein-waal.de for an initial consultation and to request an appointment.

Additional information

  • The DAAD certificate is generally only accepted for specific DAAD-related programmes. Accordingly, it is not a general substitute for other standardised English tests and purposes, i.e. TOEFL. Please confirm in advance if the DAAD certificate is the correct proof of proficiency for your specific plans. You may need to contact the university/programme coordinator directly.
  • The DAAD certificate is only valid for 12 months. Please consider this in your planning.
  • You cannot prepare for the test specifically, as it is designed to test your current abilities. Test contents are oriented towards B2+. The written part will take approx. 90 minutes and is followed by an interview of about 15 minutes.
  • Certificates are generally ready within 24 hours of your test.
