Library Management System ALMA

From August 2022 to September 2023, the library of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences worked intensively on switching to the cloud-based library management system ALMA. The library has been working with ALMA since 4 September 2023 and is continuously developing its library processes.

What is a library management system?

The library management system is the central administration software of the library. It is used, for example, to control core processes such as borrowing, renewal and reservation of media and to manage user data. The library management system is also used for the acquisition and management of electronic and physical media.

Why ALMA?

The cloud-based library management system ALMA was identified in a Europe-wide tender as a suitable system to create a uniform state-wide digital infrastructure for all university libraries in North Rhine-Westphalia. In addition to the possibility of collaborative work in the cloud and the use of common interfaces, ALMA optimises internal processes, such as the management of electronic media.
