Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is an official partner of the Landesgartenschau 2020, North Rhine-Westphalia’s largest annual horticultural exhibition. Green FabLab will be the University’s flagship project for the entire six-month event.

The Green FabLab project, which has been supported by the European Union and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia since May of 2019, aims to construct a digital fabrication workshop to drive innovation in environmental technology and resource management. For more information, please see www.hochschule-rhein-waal.de/greenfablab.

We invite all visitors to the Landesgartenschau to join us in Green FabLab for a hands-on look at digital fabrication technology. Visitors can learn more about the potential of this cutting-edge technology for developing ecological and sustainable solutions to protect the environment and climate.

Green FabLab is a high-tech fabrication workshop with computer-controlled machinery such as 3D printers, laser cutters and CNC milling machines. FabLabs allow bright individuals to learn to operate these machines to prototype and test their own ideas. They are places dedicated to building, tinkering, testing and producing innovation, as well as forums for the sharing of ideas and expertise.

Green FabLab focuses on sustainability and the environment in combination with digital manufacturing technology. The results are revolutionary possibilities in the area of “green” products and processes. All projects are united by the common goal of maximum sustainability: conservation of non-renewable resources, optimal use of renewable resources and energy, and lowering (or elimination) of resulting pollution and emissions.

Visitors to the Green FabLab will enjoy a crash course in sustainable value chain theory through interesting talks and presentations, as well as the opportunity to explore their own ideas and creativity in hands-on experiments and project workshops.
