"Fathers of the Lower Rhine": Exhibition on Active Fatherhood in Kempen
In a society that is constantly evolving, it is crucial to challenge traditional gender roles and create space for new ways of life. This is the aim of the exhibition series "Fathers of the Lower Rhine" by Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, which addresses the theme of private caregiving and highlights the diversity of fatherhood. The eleven portraits, created by university students, showcase a wide range of life paths and encourage viewers to question their own perceptions of gender roles. The exhibition was first opened in April 2024 at the Kamp-Lintfort campus and will now be available from 17th March 2025 at various locations across Kempen.
The roll-up displays can be found at the following venues:
• Town Hall Kempen
• Technology Centre
• Hospital zum Hl. Geist
• AquaSol
• GrenzlandFitness
• Kempen City Library
Each roll-up tells the personal story of a father who actively takes responsibility for family and caregiving duties. The exhibition invites reflection and demonstrates how fathers in our region are living their roles in everyday life. By being showcased in diverse locations – from the gym to the hospital to the city library – the exhibition aims to increase awareness of fatherhood in various aspects of life.
The exhibition advocates for the recognition and appreciation of unpaid caregiving work and calls for a more equitable distribution of responsibilities between men and women. It also illustrates how active fatherhood can align with professional demands and societal expectations.
We warmly invite you to explore the exhibition and reflect on the discussions about contemporary fatherhood!
