Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, June 29, 2015: The new online knowledge platform Science Compass Rhine-Waal (www.knowledgealliance.eu/science-compass) has launched! It provides a host of helpful information – particularly for both Dutch and German businesses in the region – on the Lower Rhine research landscape. Its aim is to stimulate cooperative efforts between researchers and regional businesses and encourage the development of new innovations across a variety of fields.

The Science Compass is available in three languages – German, English and Dutch – and offers a user-friendly search function that puts the scientific know-how of academic and research institutions on the Rhine and the Waal at your fingertips. The search function combs through a cloud-based database that contains information on contact persons, research foci and degree programmes offered in the region. Thus, businesses can obtain a valuable and detailed look at the ongoing work in these organisations and quickly find a contact person to discuss future collaboration. In addition to researchers, the Science Compasses provides businesses with a tool to tap into the immense potential offered by students in the region, for example by exploring currently-offered degree programmes and getting an impression of the qualifications and skills of their potential future employees.

For the past three years, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences has collaborated closely with other universities in the region on the project Knowledge Alliance Rhine-Waal 2020. It was through this collaborative project that the idea for the Science Compass – a digital knowledge platform for connection regional businesses and universities – was born. This type of cooperation has tremendous potential, as universities are responsible for producing the knowledge so desperately needed by the private sector.

The Science Compass – Knowledge Platform Rhine-Waal website (www.knowledgealliance.eu/science-compass/) was developed within the framework of teh INTERREG IV A-Project “Knowledge Alliance Rhine-Waal 2020”. Involved in this project are Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, the University of Duisburg-Essen, Radboud University, HAN University of Applied Sciences, the Eindhoven University of Technology, the Wageningen University as well as the Lower Rhine Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Kamer van Koophandel and, as lead partner, the Dutch-German initiative Euregio Rhine-Waal. The project Knowledge Alliance Rhine-Waal 2020 is financed in part by the European Funds for Regional Development (EFRD), the Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy and Industry of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Dutch provinces Gelderland and Noord-Brabant within the framework of the INTERREG IV A-Programme Germany-Netherlands. The project is accompanied by the programme management of Euregio Rhine-Waal.
