The Faculty of Communication and Environment is saying goodbye to Prof. Dr Petra Blitgen-Heinecke, who has held the professorship in Process Engineering at the Kamp-Lintfort campus since 2017 and was particularly committed to supporting students in her role as Vice Dean for Academic Affairs.
Prof. Blitgen-Heinecke studied Chemistry at the universities of Dortmund and Duisburg-Essen. In 2017, she joined Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences as Professor of Process Engineering in the Faculty of Communication and Environment.
Alongside her work in teaching and research, she played an active role in the faculty’s academic administration. As Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, she was especially dedicated to the development of degree programmes and to supporting students. During the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked to maintain good study conditions and further develop the organisation of teaching and learning. Among her initiatives was the development of a so-called Freshers’ Map, made possible through quality improvement funds, which is intended to guide and support students throughout their studies.
Prof. Blitgen-Heinecke was also actively involved in teaching and in cross-faculty initiatives. She was a valued member of the Environment and Energy degree programme and contributed to the establishment of the faculty’s GreenFabLab.
At a meeting of the Faculty Council, Prof. Dr Klaus Hegemann, Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Environment, formally thanked Prof. Blitgen-Heinecke for her commitment and for her support of the faculty, particularly in relation to students.
The faculty wishes Prof. Blitgen-Heinecke all the best for the future and hopes she will remain connected to Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.
