Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 20 January 2016: Speaking on behalf of the organisers of the Scholarship Dinner, Dr Stefan Dietzfelbinger, Director of the sponsoring organisation ‘Hochschule Rhein-Waal e.V.’, thanked this semester’s scholarship sponsors for their generosity and spoke highly of the commitment shown by regional companies: “The scholarship sponsors all share a common goal: support students who demonstrate excellent academic talent and commitment to the community. Our aim is to show these talented young individuals that long-term prospects await them here in the region.”

The annual Scholarship Dinner is a way for Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences and the three integral sponsoring organisations to thank sponsoring companies and individuals for their generous financial support for students. Additionally, both the University and the sponsoring organisations strive to forge a strong connection between sponsors and scholarship winners, who are poised to become the next generation of specialists in the region.

Over the course of the evening, students were given a prime opportunity to meet and greet with their individual sponsors, representatives of sponsoring companies and members of the University’s administration. Over a three-course buffet and drinks, students talked about their study progress, their future aspirations and their career goals. Dr Heide Naderer, President of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, congratulated students on their accomplishments and personally presented each one with a scholarship certificate issued by the Federal Minister of Education, Professor Dr Johanna Wanka.

Germany Scholarships (or Deutschlandstipendien) are awarded annually to top students at the University. The scholarship is a monthly stipend consisting of 150 euros funded by either the University, the sponsoring organisations, private individuals, companies or institutions, which is then matched by the German federal government. A total of 90,000 euros was donated in winter semester 2015-2016 by the many generous sponsors from the region, allowing Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences to award 180,000 euros in scholarships to its 50 best students.

The sponsoring organisations of the University play a key role in recruiting potential sponsors each year. The Scholarship Dinner, however, is proof that their endeavours are less about financial support and more about encouraging dialogues and bringing students and potential future employers together.
