Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 19 April 2017: On the 25 April 2017, the city of Kleve will turn 775. In celebration of this momentous event, the Faculty of Society and Economics of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences will be dedicating its Wednesday Academy lecture series to ongoing and historical developments throughout the city’s history. “As a faculty based in Kleve, we felt it important to focus on local themes in this year’s programme. Each lecture is an in-depth, academic look at topics particularly relevant to the city of Kleve. We’re confident this year’s lecture series will forge even stronger links between the Faculty of Society and Economics and the city of Kleve,” noted Dr Thomas Pitz, Professor of Economics with a Focus on Game Theory and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Society and Economics. Talks are hosted by researchers from the faculty or experts from outside the University, and each evening is dedicated to a specific aspect of the city on the Lower Rhine.

The 2017 Wednesday Academy will touch on economic topics such as the many industrial changes defining the city’s post-war years, as well the city’s more ancient past and the history behind the city’s tourist attractions. The dean of the faculty, Professor Jakob Lempp, will be speaking about Kleve’s new cash rounding policy — a topic that recently made news across Germany. Students of the University will also take the stage to present ongoing projects in the field of gender equality.

The Faculty of Society and Economics aims to promote open discussion and reflection among students, teachers and members of the public on questions with a local impact. Talks are held predominately in German and begin Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. in room 17 on the first floor of building 2. There is no entry fee to attend.
