Three cheers for Kamp-Lintfort! (row 2, f.l.t.r.) The city’s Landtag representative René Schneider (SPD), NRW Minister for the Environment Johnnaes Remmel, NRW Minister for Urban Development Michael Groschek and Kamp-Lintfort mayor Christoph Landscheidt await the commission’s decision during the announcement press conference.

According to Mr Remmel, the jury was convinced by Kamp-Lintfort’s exciting and interesting concept. He also noted the particular need to develop new concepts for the 40 hectare industrial site of the now closed Bergwerk West in the heart of the city. The minister also spoke favorably of residents’ active involvment in Kamp-Lintfort’s bid and their generally high level of civil engagement.

Mayor of Kamp-Lintfort, Prof Dr Christoph Landscheidt, was all smiles when he heard the news: “I’m very happy that we were able to impress the evaluation commission with our concept. This is a great honour for Kamp-Lintfort. My sincerest thanks go out to everyone who supported us in our bid.”

Now the real work begins as Kamp-Lintfort prepares to host LaGa 2020. The first steps will be to establish a joint foundation together with relevant horticultural consortiums and organisations in order to explore possible state subsidies to unlock the city’s full potential.
