Kleve/Kamp-Linfort, May 29, 2015: In celebration of a meaningful intercultural exchange, the 2nd annual Festival of Tolerance will be held on the Kleve Campus. Multitudes of students, professors, staff and members of the public are expected to attend the event, which is organised by the General Students’ Committee, AStA. “As the representative body for students from over 100 different nations, AStA feels responsible for overcoming cultural barriers and making sure that students feel at home on our campuses. Last year’s Festival of Tolerance was a resounding success and markedly brought together visitors of different cultures from all over the world”, notes AStA’s present chairperson, Carolin Holtey.

The positive resonance from the first Festival of Tolerance convinced AStA to make it into an annual event. This year’s festival will be held on June 3 on the Kleve Campus. “We found a lot of openness and willingness to help out among officials and residents of Kleve, which is something we definitely don’t take for granted! As a way to say thanks to our supporters, we decided to open the festival to the general public”, explains Carolin. The festival, which is free to attend, will start with a broad workshop programme on the topics of racism, feminism, music and political education. Between 6:00 and 10:00 pm, a number of groups – including the HSRW Unicef group, the AntiRacist Initiative Campus Kleve, the local AIDS-Relief Association, the HSRW Welcome Centre and the Integration Council of Kleve – will be available in info booths to speak with visitors on a number of different perspectives and initiatives in the areas of tolerance, intercultural competence and intercultural interaction.

The Festival of Tolerance will be accompanied by food and music from many different cultures, prepared by Rhine-Waal students exclusively for the event. A fun park will also be set up, including a rodeo, a moon bounce and other fun activities for kids.
