Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, April 2, 2015: What better way to teach kids about energy than an interactive and humourous play? That’s the idea behind “Hochzeit unter Strom” (“An Electrifying Wedding”), which teaches kids about energy and energy consumption around the house in an easy-to-understand and entertaining way.

The play is about Gundi and Gustel, who move in together in the days leading up to their wedding and buy all the electronics and appliances they’ll need for their new flat. On their wedding day they plug everything in and unexpectedly blow a fuse – the worst possible timing! The audience then gets to experience if and how Gundi and Gustel make it to their own wedding. Following the play, the children interact with the actors to talk about how the pair could have used energy more responsibly. Later, children learn about appliances used in their own daycare centres, what they do, and which ones can be replaced with a bit of elbow grease.

The evening was arranged by the Little Scientists’ House initative, which works closely with Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, the Centre for Research, Innovation and Transfer, the zdi-Centre Kleve cleverMINT and the Early Childhood Education study course of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. Special thanks goes to the electric utilities company RWE AG, which sponsored the event, and the Department of Schools, Culture and Sport of the city of Kleve, which provided the venue for the play.
