New ideas for campus life
"What could a perfect campus look like?" asked the FSR of the faculty of technology and bionics and Baris Ertemli (left in the picture, with Karthick Onnu from the FSR), student of industrial engineering, delivered the best answer. He won the Shark-Tank-Event hosted by the student representatives of the faculty with his ideas of a study café.
For his idea, Baris Ertemli had conducted a survey among friends who study in Turkey, where study cafés can found in all universities. "Türkiye has a deep-rooted tradition when it comes to campus life, and my research reflects this. Based on the data I've gathered, it's clear that study cafes are widely used by students, and I strongly agree with this trend. However, our campus and the surrounding area lack a dedicated cafe where students can casually gather, collaborate on projects, or study-either alone or in groups. While the library offers a quiet environment, it's often too silent, and the study rooms are frequently occupied. On the other hand, the Mensa tends to be loud and distracting, making it unsuitable for focused work. As a result, students don't have an ideal space for casual studying.", he described his idea of study cafés.
Another idea presented at the event was a bridge between the mensa and the dorms on the other side of the Spoy Canal. In the end, the jury, consisting of Karthick Onnu from the FSR, scientific staff member Frank Kremer and Prof. Dr. Neil Shirtcliffe, decided for the study café.
