How to write your thesis

Thank you for your interest in writing your thesis with me. Before you send me a request, please read, understand and acknowledge these important cornerstones of our cooperation during your thesis:

  1. Ownership

You acknowledge that your number one priority is learning and taking ownership of the thesis process.

  1. Preparedness

You must come prepared for our thesis meetings. meaning the following things among others:

  1. You do the tasks that you assigned yourself to.
  2. You prepare specific questions on the topic (I will not answer administration stuff)
  3. You bring the mindset to work on the problems on your own

   3. Failures

You try to work things out for yourself first. A key part of learning is failure. We all go through it. We want to enable you to build the skills you need in an industry or academic career. Therefore, we want to prevent you from complete failure. However, small setbacks in e.g., Programming is something that is part of the journey. It is okay to make mistakes during learning. So learn and make mistakes!

  1. Working with AI

The thesis is your work. Do not blindly copy work and use AI tools the way they are intended: To enhance your ideas but not to generate them and especially not to write your thesis for you. Scientific writing is an art and I expect you to learn it and not just paste output from a LLM.

  1. Disciplined Study Habits

You must put enough effort into your thesis. If you are studying full-time you have to work 450 hours for a bachelors and 810 hours for a master's thesis. That means you have to dedicate at least 37,5 hours of your weekly time for the thesis (I assume 12 weeks for a bachelor thesis)
