Rhine-Waal Reach-Out Initiative

Every semester the University reaches out to students whose studies differ in certain ways from the standard recommended progression. By letter these students are invited to arrange a non-obligatory meeting with the Faculty’s responsible Study Guide.

The University strives to actively support all its students in their efforts to successfully complete their degree and offers additional support if desired.

The criteria for sending out an invitation vary from winter to summer semester:

Winter semester:

  • Two unsuccessful attempts at passing a module examination
  • Having earned less than 30 CP by the 3rd semester of a bachelor degree´s programme
  • Having earned less than 60 CP by 5th semester of a bachelor degree´s programme
  • Having earned less than 15 CP by the 2nd semester of a master’s degree programme

Summer semester:

  • Two unsuccessful attempts at passing a module examination
  • Duration of study more than 10 semesters
  • Having earned less than 15 CP by the 2nd semester of a master’s degree programme

Only the relevant study progression details are accessed and analysed by the University Administration. To ensure privacy, neither your name, nor your marks will be forwarded to your Study Guide before the meeting, and accordingly students receiving a consultation offer are free to decide whether they wish to accept it.

Invitations are usually sent out in November and May. By this time all marks and academic achievements of the previous examination period will be available to the administration.

A standardised survey form will be used to record the consultation topics as well as the stage of your studies at the time of the meeting. That way the Study Guidance Team seeks to gather insight into general difficulties and problems related to specific stages in the course of studies or to degree programmes in general. Based on their findings the Study Guides will be able to develop additional target-oriented services and make recommendations to the faculties.
