New Dean’s Office at the Faculty of Communication and Environment

The Faculty of Communication and Environment at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences has appointed a new Dean’s Office. Dean Professor Dr Klaus Hegemann will continue in his role, while the positions of Vice Dean and Dean of Studies have been newly filled.

Professor Dr Matteo Große-Kampmann succeeds Professor Dr Georg Hauck as Vice Dean. He studied Medical Engineering and Sports Medical Engineering at Koblenz University of Applied Sciences, as well as Internet Security at the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences. He went on to complete a cooperative doctorate in System Security at Ruhr University Bochum and the Westphalian University. Professionally, he co-founded and managed AWARE7 GmbH before joining Rhine-Waal University as Professor of Distributed Systems in September 2023. Reflecting on his election, Große-Kampmann commented: “I am excited about the new responsibilities and look forward to shaping the future of the faculty together with my colleagues.”

The role of Dean of Studies will now be taken on by Professor Dr Kathrin Weidner, succeeding Professor Dr Petra Blitgen-Heinecke, who dedicated more than three years of committed service to the faculty’s academic affairs. Professor Weidner studied Business Administration at Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University and the Open University London, earned a Master’s degree at the University of Wuppertal, and completed her doctorate at Leibniz University Hannover. She has been Professor of Operations and Innovation Management at HSRW since 2019. Her earlier career included positions at Deutsche Apotheker- und Ärztebank, Commerzbank AG and in start-up consultancy. Emphasising her priorities, Professor Weidner noted: “The quality of our teaching and the support of our students are particularly close to my heart.”

Dean Professor Dr Klaus Hegemann expressed his appreciation: “I would like to sincerely thank Professor Hauck and Professor Blitgen-Heinecke for their outstanding dedication and tireless commitment. At the same time, I look forward to working closely with Professor Große-Kampmann and Professor Weidner to continue developing our faculty with a strong, future-focused vision.”

The new Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Communication and Environment is now composed as follows:

  • Vice Dean: Professor Dr Matteo Große-Kampmann
  • Dean of Studies: Professor Dr Kathrin Weidner

The faculty warmly thanks the outgoing office holders, Professor Dr Georg Hauck and Professor Dr Petra Blitgen-Heinecke, for their long-standing dedication and invaluable contributions, and extends its best wishes to their successors as they take on their new responsibilities.
