4th Ethics Day at Rhine-Waal University
With climate agreements, protest movements like 'Fridays for Future' and the setting of sustainability goals at corporate and legislative levels, an unprecedented balance seems to have emerged between the spheres of society, economy and environment. However, this balance remains uncertain, facing the usual factors of nationalism restrictions on freedoms as well as aggression through totalitarian systems and trade barriers on a political level. The coronavirus pandemic has added fuel to the fire, stoking new social tensions through physical distancing. This poses the question: is the balance between society, environment and economy stable, or will the special interests of groups and nations tear apart the model of a peaceful and free global community before it takes root?
The 4th Ethics Day at Rhine-Waal University will explore this tension in a conference entitled "Sustainability under pressure - Fractures in Society, Environment and Economy", offering experts, students and informed citizens a platform for expert discussion. On June 22, 2022 (Building 1 | Kamp-Lintfort campus), the three pillars of the so-called "triple bottom line" approach – society, economy and environment – and their relationship to one another will be brought into greater focus.
In lectures, workshops and a panel discussion, speakers will address the issues of overall economic development, environment and soil, fairness in trade, international cooperation and youth, the image of humanity in a neoliberal society, civic engagement and the dangers of overfishing.
The student perspective will be addressed in form of a workshop on possible loneliness and active participation of the General Students‘ Committee in the panel.
The programme will be rounded off by an entertaining poetry slam followed by a get-together organized and sponsored by the Student’s Committee.
Students are invited to join our poster competition on the following topic:
“Being a Fairtrade University since October 2017, we have already realized a number of projects. Design a feasible project on other aspects of a fair University.
Please send your results in form of a DIN A1 poster in PDF format to ethik@hochschule-rhein-waal.de by June 15, 2022 at the latest. The first three places will be rewarded a prize money of 300€ - 100€.
The 4th Ethics Day is open to everyone and free of charge.
We kindly ask you to register for both - the event (non-binding) and the workshops (binding, as the number of participants is limited) via our online form.
