Demographic change and growing health awareness are bringing about noticeable changes in our society. If you wish to study Bio Science and Health, you will be tackling precisely these exciting future-oriented issues relating to prevention, nutrition, cosmetics and quality of life. Whilst hospitals and doctors traditionally focus on patient care, you will develop innovative preventive solutions at the interface of natural sciences, health and management to actively counteract gaps in care provision.
In our entirely German-taught Bachelor’s programme at the Kleve campus, you can expect a strongly interdisciplinary education. Why study Bio Science and Health, B.Sc. at Rhine-Waal?
Programme structure and content
With this interdisciplinary degree, you’ll be perfectly equipped for the growing healthcare market. You’ll work as a specialist at the intersection of the natural sciences and healthcare, for example in workplace health and safety, in hospitals, for health and medical insurance providers, in the wellness sector, or in the chemical, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries. There, you might lead projects in workplace health management (WHM), draw up specific dietary plans, provide health advice, conduct studies or develop new health-promoting products.
- Semesters 1–3 (Foundation): You will build a strong foundation in scientific and medical subjects (chemistry, biology, physiology, anatomy, physics and microbiology), combined with modules in management, law and health economics.
- 4th–5th semesters (specialisation): You will choose individual specialisations (e.g. from the fields of health, management/law or natural sciences) and deepen your knowledge in specific areas such as hygiene, cosmetics, pharmacology, toxicology and health promotion.
- 6th semester (Internship semester or study abroad): You gain valuable professional experience during an Internship semester of at least 20 weeks in a company or enhance your international skills during a semester of study abroad.
- 7th semester (final semester): You will take the Academic Writing module, write your Bachelor’s thesis and successfully complete your degree with the Colloquium.
Yes, work placement or a year abroad – the choice is yours!
The 6th semester is specifically set aside in your Degree programme for you to gain valuable practical or international experience. You have the choice between two exciting options:
- Internship semester: You can undertake an internship (minimum 20 weeks) in a company – whether in workplace health promotion, the cosmetics industry or a healthcare facility in Germany or anywhere in the world.
- Study abroad semester: Alternatively, you can spend a semester studying at one of our numerous partner universities, taking courses worth 30 ECTS credits, improving your language skills and gaining valuable intercultural experience. If you’re planning your stay within the European Union, you may be eligible for financial support through Erasmus+.
Whatever you decide, both options will help you develop professionally and personally and look great on your CV.
To start your degree with us, you must meet one of the following requirements:
- an Unrestricted university entrance qualification or an Entrance qualification for university of applied sciences
- a qualification recognised as equivalent
- or a vocational qualification, e.g. as a master craftsman or through technical college education
These prior knowledge and skills will help you get started:
- An interest in the exciting intersection of applied natural sciences, nutrition and modern healthcare.
- A basic understanding of science subjects (important for modules such as biology, chemistry, or physiology and anatomy).
- An enjoyment of interdisciplinary teamwork and the practical application of your knowledge in modern laboratories.
The following additional requirements apply to the Biosciences and Health degree programme:
- German language skills (language certificate at level B2), as the programme is taught entirely in German.
- Good to know: A basic intership before starting the degree programme is no longer compulsory for this degree programme, and there are no entry restrictions (no minimum grade requirement).

Application process
This degree programme has open admission, which means you will automatically be admitted once you have submitted your online application. Your Letter of Admission and all the important information regarding Enrolment will be available to you on Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences Application portal.
You only accept your place on the course once you have officially completed enrolment following your admission. As soon as you have been successfully enrolled, you will be notified by email.
Did you complete your school-leaving qualifications outside of Germany? If so, you’ll need to apply via uni-assist. The platform will guide you step by step through the application process. Your documents will then be checked by uni-assist and, provided you meet the admission requirements, forwarded to Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences for a final decision and the issuance of a decision letter. You will then be informed by email.
