Learn a new language whilst studying
The Languages Department of the Centre for Internationalisation and Languages currently offers the following courses each semester. These language courses are generally open only to students enrolled at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences and, in some cases, can be credited as compulsory-elective modules (5 CP) towards a degree. As a rule, a language course can only be credited once.
You can find further information about our language courses in our module handbook. If you have any questions regarding the crediting of a language course, please contact your faculty and/or check your examination regulations.
Three steps to registering for a course:
1. Moodle
First, log in to our course registration area in Moodle.
You will then be presented with a ‘group selection’ screen. Please select your campus and your preferred languages. In this Moodle course, you will find course schedules, booking links, placement tests and more.
2. Book
The registration deadline for new language courses will be announced in good time before they begin. It is only from this point onwards that the registration links will become active and places on the course can be booked. If all places are filled, there is also a waiting list, from which students will automatically be admitted if a place on the course becomes available.
Participants have three weeks to register for a course. After that, it is no longer possible to join the course.
3. Take part
An 80 per cent attendance requirement applies to all language courses; this must be met in order, for example, to sit the final examination and receive credits for the course.

Do you already have some prior knowledge?
If you already have some knowledge of German as a foreign language, you must take a placement test (for levels A2 and B1) before joining the German course. This is compulsory. If you have successfully completed a German course at another language centre, please send a copy of your certificate to sprachen(at)hochschule-rhein-waal.de.
For English, Spanish and Japanese, a placement test is not required. However, we’d be happy to advise you if you have any questions about your current language level!
Don’t forget your certificate!
Anyone who successfully completes a language course at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences is entitled to apply for a course certificate. Course certificates can be included in application portfolios or, where appropriate, serve as proof of language proficiency in other contexts. However, they merely certify that the course has been successfully completed and are not equivalent to internationally recognised language certificates!
