Freshers’ Week at the HSRW

It’s that time of year again: new students will be welcomed to Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences (HSRW) in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort for the winter semester during the induction week, starting on 28 September. 

For new students, Freshers’ Week is the event that marks their arrival at HSRW. They get to know their new fellow students, explore their new home and become part of the university community. There’s plenty on offer on the Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort campuses this week, and local residents are also warmly invited to join in the celebrations and welcome the new students. 

The week gets off to a musical start: Freshers’ Music Night, a concert performed by students, will take place on Monday 28 September in Kleve and on Tuesday 29 September in Kamp-Lintfort, from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm on both occasions. Everyone is warmly invited to come and listen to the many talented musicians performing a wide variety of musical styles. Weather permitting, the event will take place at the Kran in Kleve or on the Kamp-Lintfort campus; in the event of rain, it will be held in the Audimax. Admission is free. 

The closing highlight of Freshers’ Week is traditionally a sporting event. On Friday 2 October, from 2.00 pm, the Kleve campus will be transformed into a major competition venue. The Homecoming Cup, a sporting competition comprising canoeing and cycling, sprinting and an obstacle course, as well as the infamous climbing wall, brings together first-year students, students in higher years and HSRW staff in relay teams. Local residents are warmly welcome to come and watch and cheer on the teams. 

For years, the Homecoming Cup has combined sporting competition with a lively programme of events and is more than just a tournament. “It’s a meeting place for our university community across generations,” explains the university sports team. “We look forward to welcoming many familiar and new faces to the campus.”
