Environment and Energy, B.Sc.*
Make your future a sustainable one
The future of industrial societies depends on the sustainable use of resources. Facing environmental limits, we need to find solutions that help to supply the high demand for energy and raw materials. At the same time, industries have to tackle emissions reduction and the challenges brought about by global climate change. A dynamic environment like this needs individuals with a broad range of skills and knowledge who also have a clear understanding of the scientific and legal facts involved and are able to relate them to the needs of their clients in economy and industry. Labour market trends predict a great future demand for specialists with interdisciplinary knowledge of this calibre.
We developed this course to fulfil that need and will provide you with a broad knowledge base in natural sciences and engineering as well as a solid understanding of economics and IT.
Our international focus as well as our hands-on approach are an excellent preparation for you to cooperate with experts in your subject area on a global scale.
What you will study
To prepare you for future employment we cover a wide range of subject areas. In your first three semesters you will acquire a solid understanding of the fundamentals of natural science and engineering in addition to completing by introductory courses in economics and information technology.
The 4th and 5th semesters will then give you the chance to further develop your knowledge either in scientific, technical, economic or administrative aspects by choosing elective courses according to your interests and desired career path. You will also have the opportunity to work on your own interesting project in cooperation with students of other degree programmes.
In the 6th semester you will either study abroad or do a practical semester before finishing your studies by submitting a bachelor's thesis.
Career prospects
As a graduate of this interdisciplinary degree programme you will be highly qualified to coordinate measures aimed at environmental protection and energy efficiency in industry, construction or private households. The evaluation of natural environments, the recommendation of methods for environmental remediation or energy audits might be your fields of work. You can find employment with engineering offices, consulting agencies in the fields of energy and environment, in the construction industry or public services, to name just a few.
