Profile
Making Systems Do What They Should
Whether it's a vehicle, a robot, or a working machine: control engineering ensures that technical systems behave the way we expect them to. That is exactly what fascinates me about my field. At Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, I teach control engineering with a strong focus on real-world practice.
Teaching That Gets Hands-On
As Head of the Degree Program "Engineering for Sustainability," I rely on project-based learning: students work on real-world challenges, often together with companies, and experience how theory turns into working solutions. Collaboration with other departments is a matter of course.
From Concrete Boom to Lane-Keeping Assist
I grew up in Kleve. After training as a machine-building mechanic, I studied mechanical engineering at Gerhard Mercator University Duisburg (today University of Duisburg-Essen) and earned my doctorate there in measurement, control and automation engineering. In my research, I eliminated vibrations on a real concrete placing boom through targeted control of its hydraulic cylinders.
I then spent more than ten years at TRW Automotive, first as a development engineer for chassis control systems and finally as Chief Engineer and Department Head for steering functions, including driver assistance features such as lane-keeping assist.
Research with an Eye on the Future
My research builds on this experience. Beyond automotive engineering, I see great potential in robotics and mobile working machines to meet the challenges of energy efficiency and demographic change.
