Your semester abroad
There are numerous opportunities for you to study abroad. In all Bachelor’s degree programmes within the Faculty of Life Sciences, a period of study abroad is scheduled for the 6th semester and is recognised as a module.
General requirements
- Regular enrolment at Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences
- Successful completion of all modules in the 1st and 2nd semesters (Study Regulations from the winter semester 19/20 onwards)
- Proof of at least 90 ECTS credits at the start of your study abroad period (Study Regulations up to the winter semester 18/19)
- Language skills: You can find information on the language requirements on the overview pages of the partner universities

Exchange opportunities
Choose your partner university – the key factor is the course content, which should match your subject. You can list up to three universities in your selection.
The application deadlines for the semester abroad are:
- 15 January for the next winter semester
- 30 April for the next summer term
The International Office will email all students with details of the application and selection process approximately 6–8 weeks before the end of the application period.
Funding
Stays within the EU are usually funded through Erasmus+; the application for this is linked to the application process for the semester abroad. You can fund stays outside the EU through numerous scholarships and funding programmes – separate application procedures and deadlines apply.
Recognition of your academic achievements
Before your semester abroad: You can find information on course selection on your partner university’s website. To successfully complete the semester, you must earn at least 15 ECTS credits and write a report. You must set out your course selection in a Learning Agreement.
Shortly before your stay, you must submit your application for admission to the semester abroad and propose a supervising lecturer.
After your semester abroad, you must submit your examination results and the report electronically via the application form. Your supervising lecturer will assess whether your credits will be recognised.
