Hygiene and Microbiology

The ‘Hygiene and Microbiology’ working group (Prof. Dr Dirk Bockmühl) conducts research into hygiene in non-clinical settings – ranging from the antimicrobial effects of products and household appliances to antibiotic resistance in the home.

The research group & its main areas of research

The ‘Hygiene and Microbiology’ working group, headed by Prof. Dr Dirk Bockmühl, has laboratories with S2 safety classification. The focus is on research projects relating to hygiene in the non-clinical sector – in particular, the antimicrobial efficacy of consumer products (cleaning products, cosmetics) and their raw materials, as well as hygiene aspects of domestic appliances. Microbial counts are determined and antimicrobial products are tested in accordance with standards. The group is part of the European COMBAT consortium (funded by JPIAMR).
