In the final lecture of this year’s International Politics Forum, held on 2 December 2025, Prof. Dr Jakob Lempp (ccst) shed light for an audience comprising Kleve residents and students from Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences on those conflicts and wars that are currently not in the spotlight
Wars, civil wars and violent conflicts are having a dramatic impact on the world today. At present, Ukraine and Israel/Gaza are the main focus of attention. But even beyond these major conflicts, the lives of many people are threatened by violence and war, for example in Sudan, the Sahel, Syria, Myanmar, Yemen and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. According to the Conflict Barometer of the Heidelberg Institute for International Conflict Research, there are over 40 wars, many of which receive little attention. Following an overview of current global conflicts and a look at some of these ‘forgotten conflicts’, the approximately 40 participants discussed, among other things, ways out of the unfortunately often violent spirals of conflict.
