Cooperative doctorates at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences

In addition to the doctorate via the Graduate School for Applied Research in North Rhine-Westphalia (PK NRW), you can also do your doctorate at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with a university entitled to award doctorates (cooperative doctorate).

In the case of a cooperative doctorate, you will be jointly supervised by a professor from a university and Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences (supervising professor). After successfully completing your doctorate, the university will award you a doctoral degree.

As a rule, you must have a very good academic Master's degree to be able to do a doctorate.

At the beginning of a doctorate, you need to choose a research topic. This should not only be scientifically relevant and innovative, but also be in your research interests. Before looking for a university supervisor, it is advisable to first make contact with a potential supervisor at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. In doing so, you should also check the requirements of the individually different doctoral regulations of the respective university or faculty. As soon as the university and the supervising professor at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences have agreed to supervise the doctoral project, this must be recorded in a supervision agreement (see downloads on this site)

Documents to be submitted for the application for a cooperative doctoral programme at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences:

  • Application for admission to a cooperative doctoral programme
  • Confirmation of supervision 
  • Proof of Master's degree or equivalent degree according to § 67 section 4 HG NRW
  • Certificate of enrolment from the university at which the doctorate is being carried out

Please note that there may be extended processing times when examining foreign degrees.

After successful enrolment, you are obliged to re-register for the duration of your doctorate for the next semester at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences by paying the applicable semester fee.
