Study Guidance

Studying raises many questions and sometimes requires individual planning and important decisions. Study Guide Laura Preisker will be happy to advise you on your course of study and is your first point of contact at the faculty – whether you have general faculty-specific queries, personal issues that are hindering your studies, or need guidance on who to contact within and outside the faculty.

Open consultation hours & contact details

Open digital consultation hours: Tuesdays 11.00–12.00. You can access the session via this Webex link.

If you find yourself in the digital waiting room at first, it means the student counsellor is currently in a session. Please stay in the waiting room – as soon as the previous consultation ends, you will be admitted (provided the consultation hours are still running). If you can’t make it in time, please come to the next consultation or send an email (see below).

Open in-person consultation hours: Thursdays 10.00–11.30 in room 12 03 011 (Building 12).

No prior booking is required for the open consultation hours (whether online or in person). The content of every consultation is, of course, confidential.

Do you have any questions or would you like to book a private appointment outside of the open consultation hours (mornings only, 09:00–12:00)? If so, please send an email to studyguide-fls(at)hochschule-rhein-waal.de. Your enquiry should include:

Pregnancy notification

Under the Maternity Protection Act, you too are entitled to special protection during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding. This includes protected periods (6 weeks before and 8 weeks after the birth) as well as the option to receive compensation for any disadvantage if examinations fall within this period. In order for you to benefit from this protection, you must notify the university of your pregnancy or the period of breastfeeding (Section 15 of the Maternity Protection Act).

We cannot oblige you to do so – but we do recommend it so that we can inform you in good time about your specific rights during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding and protect you from any potential risks.

How can I report a pregnancy? Please contact your study advisor in writing at studyguide-fls(at)hochschule-rhein-waal.de and arrange a personal appointment. Please bring your maternity record with you.
