Field trips at the Faculty of Life Sciences
Whether it’s subject-specific content, developing subject-related skills or simply ‘learning by doing’, field trips combine theory and practice and form an integral part of teaching at the Faculty of Life Sciences.
During your degree programme, you can take part in a wide variety of field trips – ranging from day trips to local companies to multi-day trips abroad.
Regional field trips
All degree programmes offer regular day trips to local businesses. You’ll learn about the working practices of individual sectors and gain an insight into the organisation and expertise of regional businesses – for example, at the Kevelaer drinking water treatment plant, the Asdonkshof waste disposal centre or the LEMKEN GmbH & Co. KG production site.
Excursions across Germany
Every two years, students on the Sustainable Agriculture, B.Sc. and Agribusiness, B.A. programmes. Both are the world’s largest trade fairs in their respective fields: Agritechnica for agricultural technology, and EuroTier for animal husbandry and management.
Excursions abroad
Inter-degree international field trips take place every year during the field trip week in the summer term and are generally open to all students in the faculty. The aim is to gain an understanding of the economic, social and environmental characteristics of a region through concrete examples. Previous destinations have included the Netherlands, France, Poland, Romania, Russia and Kyrgyzstan.
Every winter semester, there is also a trip to Brussels to visit the institutions of the European Union – the programme includes visits to the European Commission and the European Parliament. This opportunity is aimed at students on agricultural science degree programmes.
