In the Earth Observation Laboratory (EO Lab), data is collected at different observation scales, ranging from satellite data and remote sensing using drones and ultralight aircraft to ground-based monitoring with wireless environmental sensor networks. The data is used in a wide range of fields, including precision agriculture, environmental monitoring, terrain modelling, soil analysis, structural health monitoring, civil engineering, surveying and traffic analysis.
Another key focus is the collection and analysis of hyperspectral data with ultra-high spatial resolution, using unmanned aerial systems, among other technologies.
The EO Lab’s high-performance computing system enables the efficient processing and management of large volumes of data as well as the post-processing of hyper- and multispectral data. It is also used for image processing and analysis, data mining, feature detection and extraction, and machine learning applications.
