IoT Lab

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a concept in which sensors and actuators are networked and can be accessed remotely. These technologies are becoming an increasingly important area of research, as the cost of sensors continues to fall whilst, at the same time, data is becoming ever more crucial for decision-making. The IoT laboratory focuses on a range of research topics, such as low-power sensors, data transmission technologies, robust runtime environments and middleware software components, as well as tools for data analysis and visualisation. In addition to research, the laboratory facilities are also used for teaching courses related to environmental monitoring, sensor development and control systems.

Facilities

Wireless data transmission technologies:

  •    IMST LoRa Lite Gateway
  •    IMST WiMOD LoRa Shields (add-on boards) for Arduino
  •    Adafruit Feather LoRa wireless modules
  •    Dragino LoRa Shields for Arduino and Hats (add-on boards) for Raspberry Pi
  •    Wi-Fi, BLE, UWB and other wireless modules

Arduino and Arduino-compatible development boards (ARM and AVR)
Raspberry Pi single-board computers with cameras, touchscreens, etc.
Various environmental sensors (temperature, gas, air and soil humidity, etc.)
Various actuators (DC motors, stepper motors, pumps, etc.)
