Members are elected by the Faculty Council at the end of the Summer semester or, at the latest, at the start of the Winter semester. The term of office for academic members is two years, and one year for student members. Nominations may be submitted to the Faculty Council or the Dean's Office. Self-nominations are permitted.
The Academic Advisory Board discusses issues directly related to study and teaching. The development and implementation of measures take place in other bodies.
Here are a few examples:
- Changes to examination regulations (e.g. number of examinations and modules, Examination procedure, entry requirements, compensation for disadvantages, abroad semesters and Internship semesters; see Section 64(2) of the Higher Education Act)
- Third examination phase: The Academic Advisory Board issued a statement in favour of retaining it
- Amendments to the Higher Education Act and their implementation within the faculty (e.g. statement on the retention of the Academic Advisory Board)
- Evaluation of study programmes and teaching (e.g. format and timing)
- Further development of language courses and key competence modules as compulsory elective courses

- Facilitating
dialogue The Advisory Board’s primary aim is to provide a platform, particularly for students, where views and opinions on various topics can be discussed in a small group. This makes discussions far more effective than in other, larger bodies, where time is often limited due to the large number of members and topics. - Facilitating communication between the faculty and its members and introducing
new perspectives All members of the university are warmly invited to attend a meeting as guests and to raise topics themselves or via their elected representatives. The outcomes of the discussions in the Academic Advisory Board are then passed on (usually by the chair) to the relevant bodies. - Sharing and disseminating
knowledge The Academic Advisory Board aims to provide members and participants with deeper insights into the university’s organisational and administrative processes, which can then be communicated further within the faculty.
