Semester abroad

Academic Exchange at the Faculty of Technology and Bionics

Students at the Faculty of Technology and Bionics have the opportunity to study abroad. In all Bachelor's study programmes at the Faculty, study abroad is planned in the 6th semester as a module. It is also possible to study abroad outside of the 6th semester.

Requirements for a semester abroad in the 6. semester

  • Regular enrollment at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences
  • Proof of at least 90 ECTS at the start of the study abroad program 
  • Language skills: Information on language requirements can be found on the overview pages of the partner universities

Requirements for a semester abroad outside the 6. semester

  • Regular enrollment at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences

Deadlines

The Center for Internationalization and Languages will inform you about the application and selection process by email. The deadlines for applications are usually

  • Mid-January for the following winter semester
  • Mid/end of April for the following summer semester

Partner universities

You find an overview of all partner universities of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences here. Not all of them offer matching course content for your particular degree program, so look for suitable degree programmes. The Academic Exchange Coordinator will be happy to advise you.

Finances

  • Stays within the European Union are generally funded by Erasmus+. The application for Erasmus+ funding is linked to the application procedure for the semester abroad. Information on the amount of funding through Erasmus+
  • Stays outside the European Union can be financed by numerous scholarships and funding programs. However, there are separate application procedures and deadlines, about which you will also be informed by the Centre for Internationalization and Languages.

Recognition and credit transfer

The following regulations apply for the exchange semester in semester 6:

  • Before the semester abroad: Information on course selection can be found on the website of the partner university. To successfully complete the semester abroad, you must complete at least 30 ECTS credits. You record your course selection in a Learning Agreement.
  • The application for admission to the semester abroad is submitted shortly before the semester abroad, where you can make a proposal for the supervising professor.
  • After the semester abroad, you submit your examination results or your transcript of records electronically using the application form.

The following rules apply for the exchange semester outside the 6th semester:

  • Before the semester abroad: Information on course selection can be found on the website of the partner university. To successfully complete the semester abroad, you must complete at least 30 ECTS credits. You document your course selection in a Learning Agreement.
  • You can take courses that are also offered in your degree program at the HSRW and that you have not taken before. You can only take courses in which you are not yet in the examination procedure at the HSRW; you cannot therefore take a course abroad that you have already failed at the HSRW.
  • Before the exchange semester, clarify with the respective module coordinator whether the content of the course or module at the partner university is sufficiently similar to the content of the corresponding module at the HSRW. This should be confirmed in writing by email.
  • After the exchange semester, submit your transcript of records to the Examinations Office for the credit transfer.
