International Relations, B.A. students hike part of European Liberation Route

Students from the International Relations, B.A. set out from May 2nd to 6th, 2022 to learn more about the history of the liberation of Western Europe. Together with students from the University of Duisburg-Essen and the Radboud University Nijmegen, they visited different memorials in Germany and the Netherlands and discussed the last months of the Second World War from different perspectives.

The route led the mixed group of students from the Eifel to Arnhem. Along the route, they visited museums and war graves, and in between, they hiked. In keeping with the Dutch Liberation Day "Bevrijdingsdag" on May 5th, they visited important memorials in the border region: the Groesbeek Freedom Museum and the Canadian war gravesite. The students look back with enthusiasm on the varied program and the opportunity to have experienced a piece of history together.
