The Fairtrade Student Group of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences

The Fairtrade Student Group of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences conducts workshops, discussion rounds and other activities around the topic of Fairtrade. The members, who are active on both campuses, are responsible for the conception, organisation and implementation independently and autonomously. The aim is to spread the idea of fairtrade and an awareness of why fairness in trade is important, but unfortunately not self-evident, among members of the university as well as the general public.

2019, for example, at the Festival of Sustainability Prof. Dr. Dirk Reiser (Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences), Martin Schüller (Fairtrade Germany) and Dirk Cyrener (CEO of Cloudiax AG) discussed the sustainable supply chain law and how it could affect Germany's economy under the moderation of Dr. Jan Niklas Rolf (Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences). In addition, the group of students is present with stands at official events - such as the Open Day, Freshitval and Kleve Model United Nations (KleMUN) - to arouse interest in the topic of fairtrade. At their events, the group also cooperates with other student groups and student representatives - such as the AStA or the student councils - to create the greatest possible attention.

Due to Corona, the last activities were mainly online. For example, a virtual wine tasting with real wine took place on 25.5. 2021

The Fairtrade student group has packed a parcel of Fairtrade chocolate, tea and sugar for the employees who, despite Covid-19, have kept the university running on the Kamp-Lintfort campus. Irmgard Buder, professor at the faculty communication and environment, handed it over inter alia to the caretakers, the library staff and the dean's office at the end of June/beginning of July. The Fairtrade student group would like to thank all the staff who made the online summer semester 2020 possible and to inform a little bit about Fairtrade.
