You can usually borrow and return items yourself using the self-service machines during the library’s opening hours. In Kleve, the outdoor return point at the rear of the building allows you to return items 24 hours a day.
You will find machines for borrowing and returning items on the ground floor in Kleve and to the right of the entrance in Kamp-Lintfort. In Kleve, additional borrowing machines are located on the collection floors from the 2nd to the 5th floor.
For the borrowing and returning of interlibrary loans, CD-ROMs/DVDs, special formats and items from the Library of Things, please contact the library staff at the information desk.
You will need a valid library card to borrow items. Please do not lend your card to anyone else, as you will be held liable for any irregularities.
In an emergency, another person may borrow items on your behalf if they can present a written authorisation. For university staff, a borrowing authorisation can be set up in the system, e.g. for Research Associates. Please contact us in good time by email regarding this.
If you wish to borrow media with supplements, please check that they are complete before borrowing. If anything is missing, please contact the library staff at the information desk before borrowing.
A single person may not borrow multiple copies of the same title.
Items marked with a red dot are reference copies and cannot be borrowed.
You will receive receipts for all transactions, either on paper or by email. Please check these immediately to ensure they are correct and complete, and report any discrepancies to library staff straight away.
For sustainability reasons, receipts for loans, renewals, returns and fee payments made at the library information desk are sent by email. At the self-service machines, you can also opt out of paper receipts by selecting ‘No receipt’. The receipt will then also be sent to you by email.
You are responsible for adhering to the loan periods and returning the items on time. Please therefore check your library account in the PLUS catalogue regularly.
You can find the due date for your borrowed items on the loan receipt. As a rule, the due date is automatically extended 5 days before the loan period expires, provided there are no reasons to the contrary as listed below. You will receive a confirmation of the extension by email.
Extensions cannot be granted if
- the borrowed items have reached the maximum loan period,
- the items have been reserved by other users, or
- the library account has expired or been suspended.
If a renewal cannot be made, you will receive an advance reminder by email 5 days before the loan period expires.
The following borrowing limits apply to the number of items that can be borrowed at any one time per person/library card:
- Students: 50
- Staff, Sessional Lecturers, departments: 100
- External users, guest auditors, emeritus professors: 30
The library may increase the borrowing limit in justified exceptional cases.
