Language Centre

Foreign languages at the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences
The Language Centre's main objective is to prepare students of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences linguistically and culturally for an international working life. To this end, languages are increasingly integrated into the courses of study. Not only is the language centre’s program devoted to the development of communication oriented consolidation of general language knowledge, but it also imparts skills in technical terminology, and prepares students for internationally recognized certificates.
Underlying the language education of the Rhine Waal University of Applied Sciences is a universal concept based on the ‘Common European Framework of References for Languages’ (CEFR).
Accordingly it is possible, in conjunction with the regular curriculum, to learn the more popular world languages such as English, French and Spanish from the Beginner to the Advanced level, and to become proficient in technical terminology.
In addition, courses in Italian, Dutch, Russian, Chinese and Japanese languages are offered from the Beginner (A0) to the Intermediate level (B1); acquiring skills in the technical terminology of these languages is an option as well.
For international students, ‘German as a Foreign Language’ courses (DaF) are offered at all levels (A0-C1). After having reached the B2/C1 level, international students may participate in the external TestDaF, the most important German language proficiency exam for foreign students. It is officially recognized by all of Germany’s universities as proof of language competency.
The above-mentioned language offers may be expanded if required.
The individual learning process is supported through a self-study program, provided by the ‘Web Based Learning Centre’ at both locations of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. Motivated students who enjoy working independently can use this software–based language training at any time, regardless of whether they are currently enrolled in a language program.
After successful course completion, certificates will be awarded giving detailed information about the content and level of the course. This certificate can be added to your portfolio of application documents.
If language classes are required for your degree program, they will be recorded on your record of study after completion.
Head of Language Centre is Vera Nikovska M.A.
