Kleve/Kamp-Lintfort, 16 June 2016: In cooperation with the Faculty of Society and Economics and under the guidance of Dr Alexander Brand, Professor of Political Sciences with a focus on International Relations, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences will be offering an exciting and thought-provoking programme in English on a controversial and very current topic: the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

Students of the Current Affairs Society cordially invite all Rhine-Waal students to attend the programme, which will consist of three seminars on the Kleve campus on 13 June, 15 June and 20 June. Each seminar begins at 6.00 pm. Over the course of the three seminars, participants will critically examine the ins-and-outs of the complex TTIP agreement. Participants will look at not only the basics of the agreement and its stated goals, but also TTIP’s most contentious points and the notorious lack of transparency surrounding it. Through an active exchange of ideas and opinions, role plays and group work exercises, students will take apart this highly complex topic in a clear and engaging fashion. Using their newly acquired insights, students will then host an open panel discussion on the TTIP on 21 June 2016 at 6.00 pm in the Main Lecture Hall in Kleve (building 1, ground floor, room 005). The panel discussion is open to anyone interested in attending. Professors and lecturers of Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences will make up the expert panel and provide insight and analysis of TTIP in terms of international law, economics and agricultural policy.

The panel discussion will include, from the Faculty of Society and Economics, Dr Hasan Alkas, Professor of Microeconomics with a focus on International Markets; Dr habil. Gregor van Beek, Professor of Economics with a focus on Public Finance; Zunera Rana, member of the University’s Scientific Staff in the area of Business Economics with a focus on Macroeconomics and Public Finance; Dr John Henry Dingfelder Stone, Professor of Legal Studies with a focus on International and Public Law; Dr Oliver Serfling, Professor of Economic Policy and Development Economics. Dr Dietrich Darr, Professor of Agribusiness and head of the study course Agribusiness, will also be representing the Faculty of Life Sciences on the expert panel.
