Making brands - Design strategies for companies

"Making brands - design strategies used by companies like Starbucks, Nivea or Apple to capture awareness" - the title of the forthcoming lecture in the Public Lecture Programme. Professor Christoph Zielke, Professor of Media Design at the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences will give a lecture on Wednesday 30th May 2012 at 6pm at the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences at Südstraße 8 in Kamp-Lintfort.

Kleve/Emmerich/Kamp-Lintfort, May 15, 2012: Brands penetrate every aspect of our lives from looking at the alarm clock upon waking to brushing your teeth before bed The most well-known are surrounded by an air of reputation and reliability. Some become a symbol of attitude towards life and gather millions of fans.

What strategies are employed to have brands capture our awareness? What roles do factors such as design, form of the brand, shop decor or feel of the products play? And how are brands actually developed in practice?

Not only will these be the topics of the lecture, but also, what do business reports have in common with chimpanzee graphics, why does the Starbucks Headquarters in Seattle remind us of a totem pole and what does Frankfurt´s banking district have to do with a silk bowerbird’s nest.

The programme is aimed at the general public as well as students and staff of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. "Everyone, regardless of age, is invited to take part in these outstanding lectures," says the President of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Professor Dr. Marie-Louise Klotz. At the same time, she also regards the programme as an opportunity to open the university to citizens of the two university campuses.
