The future of industrial society lies in the sustainable use of its resources.

6,9 billion people live on earth today, by 2050 there could be 10 billion. The thus resulting need of resources and the realization that they are unlasting show us that they, too, are subject to elementary ecological principles. This being said, the necessity for governments, economy and private households to rethink becomes apparent. In support, the legislative body appears with new schemes such as the law for renewable energies.

What would we like to achieve?

In this highly dynamic field, there is a demand for experts with a broad knowledge base who comprehend complex scientific and legal facts of environment and energy, and at the same time are able to integrate the requirements of customers from economy and industry. The aim of instruction in the degree course „Environment and Energy“ is the practical procurement of the necessary knowledge for a well-founded judgment of the ecologically possible and what is ecologically and socially necessary.

Content of degree course

In order to do justice to the educational goal, the course is all-embracing. In the first three semesters, the focus is on the procurement of content of natural and engineering science, complemented by presentations of basic information of economic science and IT. In the fourth and fifth semester, there is a choice of two major subjects: scientific/technical and economical science/administration. Parallel to concentrating on these courses, in cooperation with the degree courses psychology and business administration students are taught to conduct a research project on their own. In the sixth semester, an internship or semester abroad will be completed, the degree course will be finished with a compact course, the bachelor thesis and a colloquium in the seventh semester.

Prospects on the labour market

At the interface of natural, engineering and economical sciences, graduates with an interdisciplinary education develop effective solutions in cooperation with experts in the respective disciplines. They coordinate measures for environmental protection and energy efficiency of plants, for industrial activities, for the building sector and also private households. Future tasks will also be the assessment of areas of unspoiled nature, preparation of suggestions for reconstructions and controls for the adherence, for example, of energy efficiency. Typical employers will be consulting engineers, companies and groups of companies, companies in the building trade, or rather buildung services engineering, and civil service.
