Apart from disadvantages, globalization also entails numerous advantages. Amongst others, it offers new aspects in an international economic area, focusses, encourages innovative thinking and acting. The University Rhein-Waal wishes to convey the basis for this new standard.
It is the aim of our university to convey to students of the degree course “International Business and Social Sciences“ not only the technique to comprehend economical context, but also to show the integrative context of science, technology and trade in different international cultures. Due to emerging customs and morals and individual legal perceptions, different countries also have their own understanding of how to handle negotiations, how to motivate employees or how management in a company in cooperation with institutions is conceived. Against this background, all this has to be regarded in the light of the increasing importance of international organizations.
Already in the first three semesters of the basic study course “International Business and Social Sciences“, the University Rhein-Waal offers lectures and tutorials which next to conveying content of analytical instruments like economathematics, statistical methods or company accountancy and controlling, also consider different cultural views, as for example in the subjects “International Culture and Economy“, “International Labour Market Policy”, “International Marketing”, “International Environmental Law”, “International Business Law” as well as in “Media Law”, “Social Politics” or “Leadership and Personnel Management”.
Being aware of the different cultural areas, in the fourth semester a first specialization takes place with regard to an individual future job orientation. Students can decide whether they wish their jobs to be in profit- or non-profit-orientated companies or institutions.
Further subject-specific trainings such as „International Finance and Bank Systems“, „Auditing in Internationally Operating Companies“ or „International Business Law” take place in the fifth semester. During the sixth semester, students complete an internship in a company or social institution, essentially aimed at their future choice of occupation. The university assists if possible.
Before the bachelor thesis is written in cooperation with a company or social institution, in the seventh semester all practical experiences and theoretical content of teaching shall be combined in compact studies.

Possible occupational fields of activity and skills
With the knowledge gained in this degree course, graduates are excellently qualified for positions in management of national and international companies in the field of profit- and non-profit organizations. They can work in management and also in special departments like marketing, controlling, personnel or finance.
